About Dr. Emmett Velten

I am a clinical psychologist licensed in Arizona (0313) and California
(PSY 7106) and have more than 30 years of professional experience.

My bachelor's degree in psychology is from the University of Chicago and PhD in clinical psychology is from the University of Southern California. My dissertation produced the Velten Mood Induction Procedure, which is widely used in research on mood states.

At the Albert Ellis Institute, I am a training supervisor, a member of its Board of Professional Advisors and of its Board of Trustees. I have been on the clinical faculty at the University of California, San Francisco, and taught at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco; am a volunteer advisor to Self Management And Recovery Training (SMART Recovery®) and editor of its newsletter, SMART Recovery® News & Views; and am a past president of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy.

I am the clinical director of ARCA, Assisted Recovery Centers of America, located in Phoenix. ARCA is a private, non-12-step, substance abuse treatment program that uses anti-craving medications as part of treatment. ACRA uses Cognitive Behavior Therapy as its counseling component.

Boxervate® a physical and mental fitness program that integrates boxing training and REBT self-help methods.
